Players team up in tribes and share bases, dinosaurs and supplies. PvP or PvE mode and other rules are set in the GameUserSettings.ini file through the file editor in the panel.

They find the server by name in the in-game list (Join ARK), or add it to their Steam favorites using the address and port from the panel.

Does the server run when nobody is playing?

Yes, the dedicated server runs regardless of you and the world keeps going even while you are not in the game.
